The Ageless Golfer

The Ageless Standard

Aging is inevitable.

Decline is optional.

A lifelong pursuit of strength, mobility, endurance, and purpose — for golfers who plan to play, and play well, for decades to come.

About me

Brian Miller is a life long golfer, having worked as a caddy while growing up in Ligonier, PA.The role provided an opportunity to work for touring pros and local celebrities (at Laurel Valley Golf Club). That experience along with being active in high school and college sports, set him on the course for many years of golf and healty living. A major upgrade occurred when he married his wife Diana, a specialist in natural health care. Now retired, his mission is to share best practices for golf, fitness, and nutrition on the pages of The Ageless Golfer.

A standard inspired by Gary Player.

The Philosophy…

“Take care of your body, and the game will take care of itself.”

Watch the YouTube Video

Long before fitness became fashionable in golf, Gary Player was redefining what it meant to be an athlete. While others practiced only their swing, Player trained his body, mind, and discipline. He believed golf was not simply a game of talent — it was a lifelong pursuit of strength, mobility, endurance, and purpose.

His philosophy was simple: Take care of your body, and the game will take care of itself.

Decades before modern sports science entered golf, Player was running miles before tournaments, performing strength exercises in hotel rooms, stretching daily, and prioritizing nutrition and recovery. The result? Competitive golf well into his later years, unmatched energy, and a standard of longevity few athletes have ever achieved.

Gary Player proved something powerful: Aging is inevitable. Decline is optional.

At Ageless Golfer, we embrace the belief that golfers who commit to fitness play better, feel better, and enjoy the game longer. Fitness is not about lifting heavier or training harder. It is about moving well, staying resilient, and protecting the body that carries you through every round.

FITNESS & HEALTH

Function Health is one of your best options- get comprehensive blood testing to check your overall health (cost is $365/yr & can be paid thru HSAs & FSAs). Much more extensive than the testing at your annual physical, a FH Clinician will give you a comprehensive report including your biological age, probably different than your real age. The report will provide nutrition and supplement recommendations to address risk areas. In 6 months, get another round of testing to understand your progress (this one is free). My homework assignment after the first year included- “increase omega 3 intake (via vitamins and fish).” Click link or QR Code below for more details and see if a part of your body is asking for attention.

Inspire change in life. Zinzino has a test, supplement, retest (to understand progress) program that directly addresses Omega 3/6 imbalance. It is called the “Health Protocol”.

Case in point- results noted in my Function Health testing above are not uncommon in western countries. Click on the link below to read the government report which describes the risks of excessive omega 6 in our bodies- cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammation and autoimmune diseases are some.

Your plan for a health upgrade-

  1. Your journey starts with the Balance Concept. Test and track your body’s essential fatty acid (omegas) balance with tailored supplements and measurable results in 120 days
  2. The Health Protocol is your roadmap. Take the test to find out where you stand and start supplementing to support your essential omega balance, digestive routine, and immune functions.

You have probably heard that many European Fans attending the World Cup in the US, enjoyed learning about and eating American food. In the interest of promoting healthy diets, I asked Google to summarize differences between these two approaches with the following results:

The American food supply relies heavily on ultra-processed, mass-produced items containing additives and hormones banned in the European Union. While the EU operates on a “precautionary principle” (banning ingredients until proven safe), the US uses a risk-based approach, generally allowing ingredients until proven harmful.

These distinct regulatory philosophies translate to several notable differences in the food supply:

  • Food Additives and Dyes: Many preservatives (like BHA and BHT) and artificial colors (like Yellow 5 and Red 40) common in the US are heavily restricted or require warning labels in the EU.
  • Growth Hormones & Chemicals: The US routinely permits the use of hormones (like rBST) in dairy cattle and processes poultry with chlorine rinses to kill bacteria. Both practices are banned in Europe.
  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs): GMO crops are widely grown and consumed in the US, whereas the EU enforces strict GMO regulations and requires clear product labeling.
  • Sweeteners: The US heavily relies on high-fructose corn syrup in everyday staples like bread, condiments, and sodas, while the EU frequently uses real sugar. [1]
  • Portion Sizes: Average portion sizes are significantly larger in the US compared to Europe, contributing to higher average caloric intake
  • Ultra-Processed Foods: Up to 73% of the US food supply consists of ultra-processed foods, whereas European diets—especially in Mediterranean countries—prioritize far more whole, unprocessed ingredients.

As a result, the standard American diet contains about 14 to 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3s, significantly exceeding the ideal 1:1 ratio. This imbalance is primarily driven by an overconsumption of industrial seed oils (corn, soybean, safflower) hiding in processed snacks and fried foods, which can promote chronic inflammation.

While omega-6 linoleic acid is essential in moderation, the high ratio makes it challenging for the body to get the necessary anti-inflammatory benefits of omega-3s. To help correct this, you can focus on:

  • Swapping Cooking Oils: Replace heavy omega-6 oils in your kitchen with extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil.
  • Increasing Omega-3 Intake: Add more fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines), walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseed into your weekly meals. (GET TESTED WITH ZINZINO!)
  • Minimizing Processed Foods: Reduce intake of pre-packaged baked goods and fried foods, which heavily rely on concentrated, refined seed oils.

Best Buddy Golf Trips

A few years ago, my high school friends and I started meeting annually for a golf getaway. We built trust from growing up together and revisiting periodically allows friendly competition, many hours of laughter, and a boost to our social health. I am a big advocate for this gathering and want to share a one stop service, experienced in setting up quality trips. I am reviewing the best solution and will provide a recommendation for domestic and international golf travel soon.

Two Golf Training Aids That Can Improve Your Swing

There are countless factors that contribute to a great golf swing, but every golfer—from beginner to experienced player—benefits from mastering the fundamentals. As those fundamentals become second nature through consistent practice, you’ll spend less time thinking about swing mechanics and more time focusing on your target and shot strategy.

If you’re looking for two training aids that deliver real results, I recommend the Orange Whip and The Hanger. Used together, they can help improve swing tempo, swing path, ball contact, and overall ball flight.

Orange Whip – Develop Rhythm, Tempo, and Balance

The Orange Whip is one of the most effective golf training aids available. Its flexible shaft encourages proper sequencing of the golf swing, helping synchronize your weight shift, improve balance, and develop a smooth, repeatable tempo.

A consistent tempo is one of the hallmarks of accomplished golfers, and regular practice with the Orange Whip can help make your swing more athletic and efficient. They have a number of other training devices to develop other parts of your game. For now, see the founder demonstrate several effective drills with the Orange Whip in the YouTube Video.

The Hanger – Build an Efficient Swing Path

Pair the Orange Whip with The Hanger, and you’ll reinforce another essential element of solid ball striking—a proper swing path.

The Hanger promotes the correct wrist position throughout the swing, encouraging an inside-to-out swing path that produces more solid contact and improved ball flight.

Over a lifetime of playing golf, one pattern stands out: most golfers struggle with a slice, which is typically caused by an outside-to-in swing path. Better players learn to deliver the club from the inside, producing a controlled draw (a right-to-left shot shape for right-handed golfers and the opposite for left-handed golfers). While not every shot needs to be a draw, learning the proper swing path gives you greater control and consistency.

Learn more about The Hanger in the video. I will have a link for purchasing soon but please feel free to explore buying directly from their website.
